Roger is a movement designer/director, embodied acting coach, and screen-motion-stage artist investigating the mixed reality of Black-queer-aspec experience through the synthetic and somatic. Ellis is the original director-choreographer of Nikki Lynette’s afrogoth musical Get Out Alive. Current projects include documusical series Happy Songs About Unhappy Things (co-director), the series Emergency Contact (creator-director), and the augmented reality performance installation Interstitial (co-creator). Ellis has worked across the US with Steppenwolf’s LookOut Series, Sacramento Music Circus, American Music Theatre Project, Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma, Tuacahn Center for the Arts, and San Diego Repertory. Work includes Ephemera by Overlie-Treanor-Black (dancer - Stella Adler NYC), Curious Incident… (movement director - Horizon), and AntigoneNOW (choreographer - Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre). Ellis’ work is anchored in the conceptual grit of xenoqueer and xenofeminist theory.
