I am a Professor of Law specialising in competition law at the School of Law, University of Leeds. I am a Director of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on Digital Governance (funded by the EU Commission). I was awarded a Philip Leverhulme Prize for my work on competition in digital markets. I was one of the investigators obtaining funding over £4 million for the ESRC Centre for Competition Policy. I am the author of the sell-out monograph The Concept of Abuse in EU Competition Law: Law and Economics Approaches (Hart Publishing, 2012; reprinted, 2015). I have published in prestigious journals such as the Oxford Journal of Legal Studies, Modern Law Review, Antitrust Law Journal, etc. I was shortlisted for an Antitrust Writing Award in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2022.I am a member of the Financial Conduct Authority’s Innovation Advisory Group. Previously, I was appointed by the World Economic Forum to author a White Paper on Competition Policy in a Globalized, Digitalized Economy and to the Advisory Council on Competition Policy of the Future of Business Centre by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. I was twice appointed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to assist the Fund’s Legal Department with expertise and recommendations in the areas of competition law and policy and by the International Trade Centre (WTO/UN) as a consultant to offer competition law training.I regularly speak at national & international fora having presented my research in over 20 countries around the globe. In 2018, I took part in a live Intelligence Squared debate on “Break up the Tech Giants” broadcast by BBC World News to a global audience of 70 million viewers. I regularly engage with and advise policymakers and international organisations. In 2018, I gave oral evidence to the US Federal Trade Commission and the House of Lords on competition in digital markets. In 2017, I gave oral evidence to the House of Lords on Brexit and competition. I am a regular commentator for the media inc. the New York Times, Bloomberg, BBC World, BBC Radio 4, Guardian, etc.In 2022, I was profiled as one of the “world’s most influential competition scholars” across all disciplines by Global Competition Review. I received a Women@Competition 5-Star Professionals Award in 2023. In 2018, I was awarded a Women of Achievement Award (University of Leeds).
