I never planned on being a software engineer. During my electrical engineering undergrad, my favorite projects were designing and building electrical circuits and I expected my career would lead down that path. But, in my first job, I was given programming tasks on a satellite communications system and later, in my master’s program, I found myself taking almost all software engineering classes including one in web application development. I loved the combination of the creative challenges in the UX and the analytical challenges in coding/architecture, and I knew where I wanted to take my career.I jumped at an opportunity to go to a tech startup building a commercial web search engine and further develop those skills. The learning curve was steep, the pace was ridiculous, and it was the most fun I’ve ever had at a job. This eventually led me to a fantastic company, Yakabod, where I spent over 12 years building enterprise collaboration software. As VP of Software Engineering, I had the opportunity to lead and shape our products and architecture, grow our dev team, implement agile development processes using Scrum, and help on the executive team with corporate strategy, talent acquisition, and technical sales.After living in and traveling around Asia for several years and working on a variety of projects, I joined GreenSpark to focus my passion for software development and entrepreneurship on enabling companies to bring their ideas to market.
