MITOTE PROJECTTrash for some... wealth for others!!!.I´m Daniel Sanchez, a mexican composer, percussionist and lecturer, better known for my Mitote Project, that was born in 2000 and that luckily since 2009 counts also on the enriching vision of the spanish environmental specialist Rosana Suarez.Traditionally Mitote is a mexican indigenous ancestral circular fertility dance, that still present until today. Now our Mitote Project its a community based project that use art for social change and to develop a planetary belonging feeling. Mitote Project fuse Music, Theatre, Dance and Ecology, for all kind of people. And is also presented as a tool for re appropriation of public spaces and promotion of nonviolence cultureAt the end of this experience, the participants will be able to reproduce new Mitotes, and the social benefits will multiply, offering an opportunity to live together peacefully and harmonically with our planet.Mitote Project has been done in Mèxico, Portugal, China, Italy, Colombia, Japan, Uruguay, Spain, Austria and Canada.In 2011 the mexican government granted Mitote with the maximum enviromental distinction in Mexico: the Ecological National Prize. 2009 and 2010 we were selected by the Organization of Ibero American States and the Secretariat of Public Education, to develop Mitote in areas of extreme violence in Mexico. Mitote Project is itself a proposal that involves communities in processes of transformation and change, for re-appropriation of public spaces by promoting culture of nonviolence. The Fund for Culture MX-EU awarded Orquesta Mitote with the "Coming Up Taller Award 2004" , classified as one of the 10 most original and innovative projects in that contest. Mitote Project, use art for social change (music and theater), combining with ecology and rescuing the collective memory, promotes awareness to communities about the importance of environment in the development and the reintegration of man to nature, providing tools to respond to the logic of capital that does not respect the limits of loading and regeneration times of ecological systems and makes of the irrational consumption of goods its way to survive.The Mitote´s objective is to sensitize the population on basic values for living and building a global citizenship, founded on solidarity, justice and equality. Where respect for the environment its fundamental to understand the transformation of human relations.
