UNECE Team of Specialists on ESG Traceability of Sustainable Value Chains in the Circular Economy works to increase industry’s ability to manage value chains more sustainably. The Team is focused on contributing to better and more informed decisions for sustainable production and consumption, leveraging ESG traceability approaches and systems to exchange data and information in global value chains of industries key to the circular transition.How could ESG value chain data and traceability link to use, reuse and share data assets in ecosystems? No. 49) and the UN Transparency Protocol (UNTP) provide policy guidance on implementing traceability and transparency at scale across borders and industries. The Team deep dives into ongoing initiatives to strengthen co-operation and complementarity. The Team discusses how to support uptake of important milestones such as the UN/CEFACT Product Circularity Data Standard (9 April 2024), an extension of existing traceability and transparency standards for textile and leather, providing business requirement specifications to standardize data exchange for circular business models.

The International Trade Centre (ITC) was created in 1964 to support businesses in developing countries. Puvan was appointed as a Special Procedures Mandate Holder (UN Special Rapporteur) by the UN Human Rights Council at its 17th Session. Representing the Asian Region and to bring views and experience directly from Business and the Private Sector to this Working Group of five experts succeeding Prof John Ruggie (Special Representative of the Secretary General on Business and Human Rights). During his mandate Puvan reported to the UN General Assembly, conducted official Country Visits to the United States and Azerbaijan, chaired the 1st Annual Forum on Business and Human Rights, and led work to develop guidance for corporate risk in human rights. His first mandate of 3 years was extended for a second term in 2015. Puvan resigned upon taking up a full UN staff role with the International Trade Centre, a joint agency of the UN and WTO.

This programme developed and introduced the first set of global voluntary business principles for the whole food and agriculture sector.The UNGC Food and Agriculture Business (FAB) Principles will help realize the goal of sustainable development as described in the Rio+20 outcome document (The Future We Want), and empower businesses to make a positive contribution to the post-2015 development agenda.The six principles complement existing initiatives that advance sustainability in food and agriculture as an umbrella over voluntary standards and technical compliance platforms. The FABs provide agreed global language on what constitutes sustainability in food and agriculture on critical issues ranging from food security, health and nutrition, to human rights, good governance, and environmental stewardship, as well as ensuring economic viability across the entire value chain. The FABs are a framework for companies to collaborate with the UN, Governments, civil society and other stakeholders.

The Group employs over 120,000 people across 22 countries. Puvan established, grew and managed the Group Sustainability function and department. He developed a 5-year sustainability strategy for the Group covering Sustainability Reporting, Sustainability Risk, Sustainability Communications, Green Technology & Carbon Management, Safety & Health Management, and Quality Management. Puvan created and installed the governance structure for sustainability across the Group and all Divisions from the Board through Executive Management down to Operating Units. He trained over 2,000 personnel in sustainability awareness and reporting, and developed the Group's first Sustainability Report. Puvan's efforts earned Sime Darby credibility as the leader in corporate sustainability in Malaysia, and as the leading global sustainable palm oil plantation company. Puvan was the first 'Chief Sustainability Officer' in Malaysia.

GreenTech Malaysia is a non-profit organization administered by the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (MEGTW), Malaysia. Puvan was appointed by the Minister to the Board of Directors. He chaired the Board Sub-Commitee on Strategy & Policy. GreenTech Malaysia is the national energy research centre to co-ordinate public, private and academic activities in energy and resource planning and efficiency; also technological R&D and demonstration programmes in the energy sector.
