I started my career as a physicist, but now my interests include cloud computing, onshore and offshore manufacturing, incubation of new businesses, and organizational effectiveness. My technical experience is in services to enable cloud computing from Amazon Web Services (AWS), enterprise operations, semiconductor and optical component manufacturing, and experimental physics.Today I'm recognized for my leadership of high performance teams, and for sorting out tough problems that involve technical, inter-personal, and business dimensions.

Together with a great team of colleagues and mentors we solved some tough quality problems and took the product line to greater than $10M in annual revenue.During this period every day felt like a workshop on being an entrepreneur. I was fortunate to have colleagues who amazed me with demonstrations what it looks like to truly believe in your business.

    In the optical components group at Nortel we rode up with the optical Internet boom and crashed down the other side in the market correction.I managed the engineering team responsible 24x7 for lithography and for gratings fabrication (for distributed feedback lasers) in the Indium Phosphide (InP) lab. We installed $20M of process engineering equipment to upgrade our lithography lab into a proper production facility. We were responsible for yield management of mature products, prototyping and launch of new products, and the development of new processes in InP. Throughout this, some great colleagues in operations taught me and the other physicists and engineers how to staff and run a factory.The crash was tough but it was another great learning opportunity leading a team through the rounds of downsizing and ultimately moving our factory to co-locate with new owners.
