ASG Group is an IT business solutions provider offering a complete digital transformation service from infrastructure/managed services through to consulting and solutions implementation.Key achievements:• Responsible for gathering technical/business requirements, architecting and delivering a clustered company-wide installation of Nagios XI monitoring for four interstate managed services teams supporting 50 clients and 1500 servers/devices across multiple technology stacks. Created documentation and trained staff nationwide in the use of product.• Key member of team to architect and implement our first AWS client for WA SMSMT team using high available Tomcat webapp and Db2 database solution deployed using Puppet automation. Received company award due to client feedback.• Seconded interstate to deploy Tableau business intelligence and RStudio data analysis/Shiny Server software for a highly visible project in Azure.• Researched and actioned refresh of all internal Linux servers in the WA office using Puppet automation to a hardened specification with AD auth.• Performed the hybrid migration of Exchange 2013 to Office 365 with AD federation for 280 mailboxes totalling approx. 500Gb.• Travelled interstate to assist in significant tender bid and subsequent onboarding task.Main responsibilities:Primary Linux resource in WA focused on Linux project work and Windows/Linux server support of 10 corporate and government clients across both public cloud and privately hosted infrastructure.• Performed server administration tasks such as patching, backup/recovery, server builds, security hardening, performance monitoring and tuning, application deployments including database updates.• Customer liaison for support requests and monthly status meetings.• Creating client documentation and processes for handover/training to other team members.• Worked delivery managers to produce tender responses for solution design and cost estimations.

Fujitsu Australia Limited is a leading provider of business, information technology and communications solutions including strategic consulting and both application and infrastructure managed services for corporate and government organisations.Key achievements:• Completed a major hardware/OS refresh after joining project halfway through due to staff exit which entailed migrating to new Oracle SPARC hardware running Solaris 10 and implementing Solaris 9 branded zones.• Key member in the major upgrade of a large Db2 v8.2 database on Solaris 9 to v9.7 on Solaris 10 zone. This demanded close liaison with customer’s database/application support teams as well as internal storage and Db2 support teams. Main responsibilities:This role was focused on Solaris/Linux client project work and involved collaboration with operations teams/client facing managers to scope and implement project deliverables for corporate and government clients. Attended client meetings for change management and progress updates as well as providing build documentation, handover training and acting as 3rd level support to internal operations staff.

KBC Financial Products was a recognised market player in the sales, trading and structuring of global convertible bonds and Asian equity derivatives with offices in London, New York and Hong Kong. Key achievements• Researched open-source monitoring software and implemented Nagios Core globally across three regions to replace legacy monitor solution and integrated with in-house toolsets.• Seconded to Hong Kong for three weeks to provide operational support, implement a server monitoring solution and facilitate the physical separation of hardware and data following the sale of the convertible bond business. • Oversaw the retiring of a redundant Windows domain which required liaising with stakeholders about impact, working with the development team porting remaining applications and migrating data and Sybase databases.• Migration of critical legacy data from single Samba server with attached storage to a Netapp NAS environment and communicated with corporate users on the new methods of accessing the data. • Consolidated Exchange 2003 mailboxes to Exchange 2007 in a phased manner and decommissioned old environment.• Enhanced nightly Netapp backup script to perform backup streams in parallel, reducing running time by 50%. Main responsibilities:Head hunted for a 12 month contract to join an established team running the existing global infrastructure and managing the separation of IT assets following the partial sale of the business. The role was primarily focused on the consolidation of infrastructure by rebuilding hardware or virtualising to VMware and decommissioning old hardware along with all aspects of routine administration and hardware support of Solaris/Windows servers and clustered Netapp/StorageTek SAN storage.

Aspect Capital is a systematic managed futures hedge fund which currently manages more than US$6 billion of assets from funds of funds and institutional investors.Key achievements:• Promoted after two months to provide technical and project leadership of three support staff in the IT Support team.• Raised the technical performance and customer service level of the IT Support team to a level where senior management had restored confidence in the technical and professional ability of the team.• Transferred a large amount of level 1 & 2 support and daily administration tasks from Infrastructure team to the IT Support team. This enabled the Infrastructure team to shift focus from ad-hoc requests to value-adding project work. Main responsibilities:Promotion to team lead meant responsibility for technical guidance of the team, project planning, shift rota creation, staff assessments and accountability for delivering a high standard of customer service to all levels of the business. The IT Support team was responsible for first line support across the enterprise to 120 users including overseas sales personnel and traders. Technically this role was evenly split between supporting Windows/Linux servers on VMware together with network administration of Cisco switches, Bluecoat proxies and Checkpoint firewalls and storage administration of Brocade SAN fabric/clustered Netapp filers.

Endeavour Capital was a fixed income relative value hedge fund which at its peak managed US$3.5 billion of assets from fund of funds and institutional investors.Key achievements:• Designed and deployed a comprehensive monitoring and alerting system using Hobbit. Enhanced with custom extensions it allowed rapid response of issues, measurement of internal SLAs and graphing of metrics from network devices, environmental sensors, servers and critical applications. • Architected, built and tested a new fund’s infrastructure with Windows Server 2008 domain, StoreVault S550 NAS, Sybase ASE15 database and application servers on Centos Linux. • Managed a project to implement roaming user profiles, consolidate distributed user/team data onto networked storage and then to apply security policy according to group function. Extensive user consultation was required. Main responsibilities:This role encompassed all facets of Windows and Solaris/Linux server administration as well as Sybase/SQL Server DBA activities and Netapp storage management. Supported front and middle office staff on a wide array of financial applications for market data, trade execution/reconciliation, risk management as well as the underlying infrastructure.

Key achievements• Key member in design and upgrading of the production web environment utilising three data centres with 42 web servers, 6 Oracle instances and 3 image servers accessed via F5 Big-IP load balancers and using Tomcat session clustering with real-time database and file replication to achieve 99.999% reliability in a 24x7 mission critical context.• Proactively developed a set of shell scripts to streamline the webapp release process that checked out code, validated, compiled and packaged for test or production before copying to staging servers, performing database updates and deploying code to web servers.• Domain server migration from NT Server 4 and Exchange 5.5 to Windows Server 2003 and Exchange 2003. This required project management, research and phased implementation over three weeks for maximum availability. Main responsibilities:The focus of my role was Solaris administration with the design, installation, configuration, security hardening and performance tuning of the development, test and production web environments as well as supporting 120 corporate users across two offices.

The New Zealand Association of Credit Unions represented at the time the interests of 41 Credit Unions supporting approximately 200,000 members.Key achievements:• Implemented a purchased Internet banking solution using three-tier web infrastructure based on IIS, JRun (J2EE) and integrated into the Universe database. • Key member in the migration of the custom banking system from Universe 9.4 on Solaris 2.6 to Universe 10 on Solaris 9 run on new SunFire hardware.• Defined and deployed centralised email gateway and proxy servers with content filtering/anti-virus to eliminate Credit Unions’ reliance on external Internet providers.• Resolved issues with a poorly performing service provider by undertaking the majority of Solaris administration. Main responsibilities:Initially my role was development focussed, however, that expanded that to encompass Solaris administration, security hardening/auditing as well as the Internet banking project and creation of a disaster recovery plan.
