  • San Diego State University: Turnkey Theater “Morning Buzz” Workshop
    Intern
San Diego State University: Turnkey Theater “Morning Buzz” Workshop Mar 2022 - Apr 2022
My experience as a part of the Morning Buzz team for the Turkey Theater Spring 2022 Internship program was one that I will always be grateful for. I went into the process having done little collaborative creative writing and character development work and I came out of it having an idea of what a future career in collaborative creative writing and storytelling might look like. The beginning of our process looked like the entire cast, playwright, director, and production assistant sitting around a table and brainstorming who we thought all of the characters could be. We got to help build the characters we were cast as and spent the next four weeks workshopping the script. By the end of the month we had a play that we were proud to perform in our official staged reading.

The first round I read twelve plays assigned to just myself and decided which should go on to the next round. The second round myself and the rest of the committee decided which plays should be put on at Wayward as staged readings or full productions. The event itself was a BIPOC playwright competition and most of the reviewing process included making sure that there was quality BIPOC representation in every piece that was chosen.
