I provided consulting services for the Walla Walla Valley Chamber of Commerce utilizing 501 Commons' Pathways Assessment for nonprofits. We identified three areas of greatest need: mission, vision, and values statement review, board development, and public policy. I then compiled a 16-page report complete with analyses of the priorities and recommendations. In the report and my presentation to the Chamber, I advocated for the importance of prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion in each of the three areas to improve the impact of the board of directors, their public policy, and their ability to recruit and retain diverse membership.

As a Senior Intern, I performed over 50 interviews with prospective students to develop a holistic understanding of each student’s identity and help them determine whether Whitman might be a good fit. I tailored my interview style to support each interviewee with the goal of helping them to reveal their notable qualities and experiences, while ensuring that they leave the interview feeling positively. When writing follow-up emails and general communications with prospective students, I ensured each was personal and unique to the prospective student. Along with an Admission Officer, I facilitated Virtual Information Sessions for prospective students, where I shared personal anecdotes about student life at Whitman and answered questions. Starting in December, I reviewed applications to Whitman, following the guidelines of the Office of Admission to evaluate the student through a holistic lens.

Throughout the course of the summer, I worked on several different projects that dealt with the City of Walla Walla's historic preservation efforts. We secured a $17,000 grant to pay for Downtown Walla Walla's nomination to become a National Register Historic District. I created a PowerPoint presentation and GIS map of the proposed district to share with Washington's Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation. Additionally, I prepared a detailed inventory of the Local Register of Historic Places.I wrote press releases and memorandums for the City Council to report on my findings. I conducted research using the MRSC and speaking with city planners from other cities to help update the Municipal Code. Lastly, I updated forms and documents used by Development Services to be more user-friendly, modern, and aesthetic.
