As a research chemist I was in charge of pioneering a technique to explore ion insertion in energy relevant solid state materials using electrochromic materials as a model system. I probed the difference in energy storage performances between individual nanoparticles using optical and in operando electrochemistry. The combination of fundamental and commercially relevant information gained from these studies led to four first-author publications and a provisional patent.

Investigated enzymes involved in the dihydrodipicolinate pathway in E. coli and aromatic aminotransferace pathway in S. cerevisiae using site directed mutagenesis and other recombinant DNA technologies.

NSF-REU summer internshipProbed catalytic behavior of copper complexes in heterogeneous mixtures for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) via cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry experiments. Organic ligands for future ORR were synthesized.

Prepared air, water, and various solid samples for asbestos analysis by transmission electron microscopy, phase change microscopy, and polarized light microscopy. Similar types of samples were prepared for lead analysis by atomic absorption spectroscopy. Air spore traps and tape traps were prepared for mold spore count and mold type analysis.
