As a Tools Specialist I support the data quality and operations of Google Maps through a range of projects. Frequently interacting with third-party clients, I perform quality assurance of incoming data or debugging issues before data edits. While working on these workflows, I focus on developing methods to increase their efficiency and reduce processing times. I use Python, SQL, and ArcGIS to develop scripts to automate data analysis, and have created ArcGIS Toolboxes to increase workflow efficiency by 25%. I record all information into documents to pass on to teams when workflows have become stabilized for handoff.

Working in the Schools team, I upheld the mission of the Healthy Schools Act (HSA), connecting with school districts across California to incorporate Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in their pesticide usage. As a Scientific Aid, I accomplish this by submitting Pesticide Use Reports (PURs) from school districts into our database, detailing the pesticide, quantity, and frequency of its use. From that data, I analyzed yearly trends of districts' pesticide usage using SQL Server to support outreach projects. I’d then reach out to school districts that displayed increased usage and assist them in becoming compliant with the HSA.

Within my work for Apple Maps I was promoted to being the Team Lead. I onboarded and trained every member of my team, comprising of 13 people working across 9 different projects. I used agile project management to keep track of moving deadlines and reassess our project scope, coordinating with other project managers to prevent potential issues. To do so I consistently checked in with my team to gauge capacities and help overcome blockers. In adjacent I continued performing large scale data analysis through pgAdmin, QGIS, and in house programs.

Working with the Arboretum, our goal was to increase transparency to the public on the findings of the Water Quality Survey at the Arboretum Waterway. I analyzed living survey data to compile into easily digestible and informative signs to be placed along the waterway. Working with RStudio, graphics displayed the most prevalent pollutant in the area and methods to avoid further contamination. Furthermore, the signs communicated how the responses can help us protect this campus resource.

In collaboration with the Nature Conservancy, I compiled research on species for the Critical Species Lookbook in support of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act. Using literature databases such as Web of Science, I made assessments determining groundwater dependencies for California native species. Traits such as habitat, range, endangerment status, and current threats were all collected to determine the level of risk for each species from pollution. Additional resources used varied from environmental documents prepared by state agencies to scientific studies.

The CSC provided grants to registered UCSC student-led organizations that incorporate the Blueprint for a Sustainable Campus in their projects. This was managed from a fund holding $250,000. Further, I acted as a representative in the Staff Evolution meetings with our sister organizations to evaluate the needs of current and future staff. We discussed staff performance, impacts, blockers, and the overall health of our organizations. We also comprised of the hiring team for any open salary positions. Along with Staff Evolution, I also participated in planning the long-standing Annual Earth Summit at UCSC. In the 2018 Earth Summit, I co-organized and led the 4th Annual Student of Color Environmental Caucus.
