San Francisco, California

At the Department on the Status of Women, my role was primarily to assist Women's Policy Director Minouche Kandel with research and programming related to Human Trafficking-related policies. The Department is tasked with staffing the Mayor's Task Force, a body comprised of government agencies, civil service providers, law enforcement, and community advocates. The Task Force also releases a report on the situation of human trafficking within the city of San Francisco. I was a principle contributor on the Third Human Trafficking in San Francisco Report and began compiling information on the Fourth Report before departing.

San Francisco Bay Area

Senator Kamala Harris serves the people of California through policy reform and legislative action. While working in her office, interns perform a variety of duties, including conducting research for the legislative staff, communicating with constituents, and assisting in the administrative operations. I spoke with roughly 150 constituents over the phone or in person each day while I was in the office, in addition to assisting staff with casework and letter writing. During my time, I assisted with calls related to the 2017 California Wildfires and disaster relief, candidate selection for academy nominations, and provided support through the 2018 government shutdown.

San Francisco Bay Area

Caravan Studios works alongside communities to help assist in some of their most pressing challenges. From worker's rights to shelters, the apps that they produce and espouse through their Public Good App House (PGAH) initiative speak directly to what the community needs. I joined their team to assist with launching apps, and engaged in work related to grant writing, advocacy, and conferences to ensure that Caravan is best meeting the concerns of the public they hope to serve. While at Caravan, I assisted specifically with elements of advocacy and conferences, as well as researching future collaborators for the PGAH. My work surrounded the Safe Shelter Collaborative, which is an app that shelters can use to communicate the need for shelter beds for survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking. I represented Caravan at the International Human Trafficking and Social Justice Conference in Toledo, Ohio in September 2017.

Springfield, Massachusetts Area

Senator Elizabeth Warren serves the people of Massachusetts through policy reform and legislative action. While working in her office, interns perform a variety of duties, including conducting research for the legislative staff, communicating with constituents, and assisting in the administrative operations. I spoke with roughly 50 constituents over the phone or in person each day while I was in the office, and I was grateful to get the opportunity to gain experiences formally interacting with agencies that serve the public through the office of the Senator.

Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, Ma

IES Abroad Student Ambassadors speak to students seeking to go abroad about their experiences with IES. Topics include housing, classes, social integration, multicultural approaches to learning, and the local culture of the desired program. While in this role, I took it upon myself to engage fellow students on the topic of studying abroad, and provided information on both the program I chose as well as those I had looked at when initially searching for an abroad experience. I also got the chance to speak about interning in Switzerland as a result of already being in Europe.

Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley Ma

The Global Partners Program at Mount Holyoke College pairs upperclassmen with incoming international students to better foster community and inclusion at the college. It also serves as a project for intercultural exchange and education.

Geneva Area, Switzerland

At Covalence, I engaged in a myriad of analytics tasks to assess the Environmental Social Governance Standards of multinational corporations using news reports, company filings, and other public information. While there, I also assisted the UN Working Group for Environmental Monitoring and Assessment on eligibility reporting and feedback loops. The group was primarily ambassadors from Central Asian and Eastern European nations looking to improve environmental monitoring in agencies throughout their countries. Using the information from Covalence, I was able to provide ample support from a watchdog perspective.

"Environment Virginia is a citizen-based environmental advocacy organization and a project of Environment America. Defending our environment requires independent research, tough-minded advocacy and spirited grassroots action. That’s the idea behind Environment Virginia. Together with thousands of supporters from all walks of life, we take the kind of action that wins tangible results for our environment." While at Environment Virginia, an arm of the greater Environment America, I engaged in canvassing within Virginia communities, op-ed writing daily, and phone banking in support of environmentally-focused legislation. Through my work, I spoke to roughly 100 Virginians weekly on the importance of shifting to clean energy from an economic, public health, and social lens. I was pleased to see the passage of the Clean Power Plan via executive order in August 2015.
