Visitor Experience Team Member
Garden Assistant
I came off furlough leave early to assist the garden guides at the York Museum Gardens with lockdown procedures and to better ensure coronavirus policies, in the gardens, are upheld to keep staff and public safe.
Documentation Project Assistant
Working on the York Museum Trust stores audit project, my task was to audit and improve documentation of the collections, primarily held by the York Castle Museum, in preparation for a move to a newly consolidated storage facility. Within my role I edited and created records on our CMS Adlib, photographed objects, and recorded their characteristics on our audit spreadsheets. I also trained and worked alongside several project volunteers and student placements, and analysed audit data to feed back in wider curatorial meetings. I worked reflectively, thinking about ways to improve our process for future projects and made suggestions for the plans for the new storage facility based off the information I had gathered and the expertise I had developed. Overall, this project experience has solidified my career ambitions and provided me with confidence in my abilities and a wealth of collections management experience, which I am keen to take to a new exciting collections role and/or project.
Casual Visitor Experience Team Leader
Research Intern
Highly competitive 40-hour paid internship on the "Military Memories" project, with IPUP (Institute for the Public Understanding of the Past) at the University of York. The internship involved designing visitor surveys and interviewing museum visitors across several regimental museums in Yorkshire, in order to gain an understanding of why people visit these types of attractions, what they are hoping to gain, what they expect, and what they have learnt. It also helped to assess the types of visitors these sites of military memories are currently attracting.
