I am a biomedical engineer, and I spend my days slowly nudging humanity forward toward the creation of cyborgs.To contact me, please use the Contact section of my author website, www.rachellancewrites.comFrom 2009-2017 I was a proud civil servant for the US Navy, where I worked designing underwater breathing systems and investigating patterns of trauma from explosions. I completed my PhD concurrent with my employment with the Navy, and my dissertation work on blast trauma included the investigation of the sinking of the Civil War submarine HL Hunley. I currently hold a faculty post at the Duke University School of Medicine, where I perform undersea and hyperbaric research at the Center for Hyperbaric Medicine & Environmental Physiology. I am also an author with Dutton, an imprint of Penguin Random House. My first book, "In the Waves," will be published April 7, 2020.
