I am a Samford University graduate as of May 2023. I have a bachelors degree in Psychology, with a minor in Spanish. I want to further my education with a Masters in Social Work.Before college, I spent 5 years of my middle and high school experience living in San Juan, Puerto Rico. There, I learned the value of cultural competency and communication. I have a strong proficiency in written and spoken Spanish, specifically of a coastal dialect. During the fall semester of my Junior year, I spent a semester abroad through the Linking Lives program at Virginia Tech. I spent 10 weeks in Lugano, Switzerland studying and training for a 4-week field study in Ntarama, Rwanda, where we worked alongside a local non-profit school to gain better understanding of their educational system, culture, and history. During these four weeks, I assisted teachers in helping students learn English. For the duration of the semester, I was trained in grant-writing and building group workshops through academic exercises. With this training, I helped create educational workshops and grants that, if presented to and accepted by the US Embassy in Kigali, Rwanda, would be practiced with Linking Lives students and Rwandan locals.While attending Samford, I worked as both a restaurant hostess and server at Soho Social for 2 years. I trained incoming hostesses for the job. As a server, I worked to upsell high-profit food and beverage items to customers at my tables. This job taught me how to communicate effectively with different groups of people, while also managing multiple tasks at once. During college I also worked as an assistant rock climbing coach and front desk employee at Birmingham Boulders. I helped coach both the recreational and competitive teams, with kids ranging from ages 8-15. As a front desk employee, I built relationships with both members and new guests, sold memberships, assisted in inventory and cleaning, and worked tabling events with partner organizations.
