About Rachel Mayes

My name is Rachel Mayes and I bring more than 25 years of public, private, and government experience in management, financial services and organizational development in the nonprofit field. As the leader of Southern Echo, Inc. a community-based grassroot nonprofit organization, I am responsible for recruiting, working with and training cadres of new leaders across the State of Mississippi in effective community organizing work. The strategic goal is empower and enable local communities to take ownership in building the necessary infrastructure to develop potential leaders who can hold the political, economic, educational and environmental establishment accountable to the needs of those who are disfranchised within the State of Mississippi. This work includes working with various community stakeholders in 12 other states in the south and southwest area. By working to develop a new generation of young community leaders in the State of Mississipppi, it is our goal to create a transformational model that can be replicated across the country.
