    Traditional Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-Do Jan 1993 - Present
    Nimbin & Lismore, Nsw
I started learning karate when I was 14 years old, and it re-ignited my withering spirit that, at the time, was being suffocated by the environment I grew up in. I have been sharing the benefits of this healing, traditional ethical effective karate style for 30 years. I currently offer classes for ages 3 to adults, in 3 different levels of classes. Overall I am now teaching 12 classes/week, both group and one-on-one. My concern is on developing personal power, through mental and physical confidence. I direct my students to harness their ‘Wise Warrior’ spirit, to increase their own confidence and humility, and to be able to defend and protect themselves and those around them. To be of benefit to their community, to develop and protect peace within oneself, the family, the community, and the world. It is important to me as an instructor of a martial art that students understand the importance of respect, humility, self-control, and peace-making.Our 5 ‘Dojo Kun’ (Precepts) are:1. Work to Perfect Your Character2. Always Act with Courtesy3. Refrain from Hurtful Behavior4. Culitvate a Spirit of Effort5. Protect the Way of TruthWe develop the 5 Qualities of Focus, Respect, Humility, Perseverance (Resilience), and Self-discipline.

  • Family Support Network
Family Playgroup Officer/ Support Worker/ Parenting Program Facilitator
Family Support Network Feb 2015 - Jan 2018
    Nimbin & Lismore Nsw Australia
I worked independently, opening, facilitating and closing up the Nimbin Family Supported Playgroup twice/week for 3 years for local families with children aged 0-4 years. I sang, danced, made music, played music, did kiddy-yoga, read stories, and made healthy balanced morning teas. I brought in professional speakers from all fields of parenting/ child development/ relationship services. I referred parents/carers for specialised support both for themselves and their children, and provided a friendly professional ear to adults and children alike. This was a ‘soft-entry’ service to develop trust with families so they could receive further support if needed, offering information and family-centred handouts on all topics from breastfeeding to step-parenting to choosing a school. I promoted on radio, newspaper, social media and with posters I designed myself. I developed annual Program Plans with craft, games and outings aimed at all child development areas. We celebrated seasons, birthdays, and visited the local school’s library and chooks! Building community links in every direction to strengthen families. And I taught parenting programs, and provided one-on-one, at-home weekly visits for parents/carers who needed extra Family Worker support. I enjoyed this position immensely, and received a lot of positive feedback from families regularly. I wish these families all the best.
