About Rachel C. Allen

Rachel Allen, a member of the Nez Perce Tribe (Nimiipuu), is a curator and Ph.D. candidate. As a curator, Allen is collaborating with heather ahtone on Joe Feddersen's (Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation) retrospective for the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture in Spokane, Washington, slated to open in September 2024.Allen's research focuses on cross-cultural understandings of atmosphere and sky in Native American and American Art. Before pursuing a Ph.D., Allen was an Assistant Curator at the Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) where she started as a curatorial fellow. Allen worked on several exhibitions at PEM, including "T.C. Cannon: At the Edge of America" and "Nature’s Nation: American Art and Environment." Prior to PEM, she held positions as Assistant Professor at Michigan State University and Assistant Preparator at the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum. While there, she co-founded the Emerging Museum Professionals Chapter of Michigan and earned a certificate in Collections Care at the International Preservation Studies Center.
