As the associate managing editor of the Neighbor Newspapers in the Metro Atlanta area, it is my job to create community-focused, engaging, visually appealing weekly newspapers. While I continue to write articles for our papers on a weekly basis, I also manage the Neighbors' editors and writers, while working closely with our copydesk department to produce meaningful weekly products. Upon taking on my previous new role as editor at the North Fulton bureau of the Neighbor, I recognized a need for our North Fulton product to be more localized and include more content that our readers would be able to actively engage with — including, more previews of upcoming events, a heavier focus on local politics and a stronger web and social media presence. I also saw an opportunity to help the community by starting a "Pet of the Week" column featuring adoptable animals from local pet shelters, including Life Line and Furkids. In addition, I pitched and managed our internship program — something the Neighbor had not done in the past. Other day-to-day responsibilities include communicating with readers and advertisers to meet their needs, working with local public relations teams to create content for readers, managing our website, Facebook page and our Twitter accounts, assigning stories and photo features to my staff and laying out the look and feel of the newspaper.
