Intranet management. Promotion of EDI and other areas of internal expertise and achievement. Support for employee awards and events, and change comms. Led the refresh of a 6000+ page intranet, to get it working as a functional and cultural asset that helps all MHA colleagues get things done, find things out and have their say. Currently working with teams to get new content and new voices on there, while also establishing guidelines for content management, training for new authors and teeing up for the launch of the mobile app. Lots of work, but lots of positive feedback that makes it all worthwhile - plus the latest stats show engagement is up 300% :)

Strategy Development Office

• Designed and managed a hands-on proposal support and review service, increasing participation and success in strategic grants, especially among early-career researchers• Service included informal coaching for CV building and self-reflection at key transitional moments• Developed a set of support pages and resources for the intranet to simplify proposal preparation and promote understanding of the European funding landscape• Went on to partner with IT to transform the intranet: content audit, restructure for more findable content and better UX• Project managed a number of internal competitive calls• Partnered with HR for the design of a transferable skills training programme for postdoctoral researchers• Content planning and publication of a weekly internal newsletter to support all of the above actions• Primary lead for best practice benchmarking, and compelling narratives when reporting to trustees and submitting major bids for funding • Part of the team leading development and review of the five year strategy

Marketing And Communication

• Produced content in different styles for the website, social media, newsletter and other campaign materials• Partnered with HR to level up employee engagement and L&D assets• Guided colleagues on the most appropriate communications approach, including critical review of internal documentation for clarity, cohesion and completeness• Raised awareness and engagement with the institute-wide research programme among 17 research groups and 10 service teams, as well as external stakeholders• Editorial lead for major national funding bid (€4M) collating, editing and reshaping input from 20+ content contributors into one compelling narrative. Included some idea development work

• Continuation of the freelance translation described below, but on a part-time basis and specialising in the research sector: research papers, proposals, press releases• Website reviews and restructure, including content development• Secretary for the regional association of translators and interpreters (2013 &2014)

• Provided specialist support for the communications teams at seven Valencian universities to improve the international impact of their scientific press releases• Got Valencian research into The Guardian and popular science news site IFLS, among others• Expanded the collaboration networks of research teams through targeted dissemination of their research to industry, practitioners and other stakeholders• Managed the European project website

Translectures | Valencia, Spain

After a few months I was made leader of this WP. My additional duties included:• Coordinating, monitoring and reporting dissemination strategy at project level (six European partners)• Defining and updating the project narrative for use in reports and project presentations• Producing copy for various channels and events, including a project blog (uncommon at this time)• Exploration of ways to commercialise project technologies (market analysis, starter-for-ten business plan)• Project website leadI also got involved in editing research papers and technical project deliverables, and on one occasion helped explain an anomalous result through linguistic analysis of the text corpora.

Translectures | Valencia, Spain

A European research project (FP7) needed a 'human translator' to transcribe and translate video lectures, to produce datasets for use in machine translation. I then got to assess and postedit the automatic translations, and user test the bespoke interface for editing subtitles created as part of the project.

• Grew a freelance translation business from scratch while living abroad• Delivered quality translations across a broad range of document types, styles and intents• Mainly working from Spanish and Catalan into English for translation, and proofreading either translations by other translators (quality control) or texts written in English by non-native speakers• Over time branched out into copy editing and copywriting for websites and company blogs
