Select, assign and audit diagnostic and procedure codes to patient records for a 101-bed, acute-care psychiatric hospital. Manage chart completion (ICD-9-CM and CPT coding/abstracting), chart assembly and analysis, patient admission and patient information privacy/security. Work collaboratively with patient account department to ensure accurate billing and resolve claim denials. Review medical documentation and consult with healthcare providers when documentation is inadequate or unclear for coding purposes. Selected Contributions: Helped hospital pass JCAHO inspections by consistently meeting JCAHO requirements. Earned Employee of the Month recognition award in April 2011. Maximized reimbursement by ensuring accurate ICD-9-CM coding and conducting regular quality audits of providers’ selected codes compared to chart documentation. Ensured records met quality and risk-management requirements by participating in hospital chart review committee. Rapidly mastered Quantim clinical encoder software for fast, accurate coding and abstracting, as well as HMS, Midas, and MedSeries4. Performed presentations for new employees on Privacy and Security of PHI and answered all Privacy and HIPAA related inquiries. Trained staff on and implemented the ICANotes EHR software for the entire hospital, including psychiatrists, medical internists, nursing staff and clinical services. Investigated all potential and actual HIPAA breaches and Confidentiality violations and reported quarterly to the Compliance Committee and annually to the Dept. of Human Health Services.
