In 2009 I joined the Integrated Master's course in Environmental Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, one of the best engineering faculties in Portugal, which I finished in 2014 with the master's thesis entitled: "Indoor air quality in kindergartens: comparison of urban and rural environments". After finishing the Master's, I worked as a research fellow in the INAIRCHILD Project (PTDC/SAU-SAP/121827/2010) where I was involved in the monitoring phase of air pollutants and data analysis, exposure modelling and impact assessment on human health, as well as in the dissemination of results: two articles as first author (published in the renowned journal Environmental Pollution with impact factor: 8,071) and five as co-author in international journals indexed in the Journal Citations Report (JCR journals) and four communications in scientific meetings, as well as in the organizing committee of the final seminar of the project. During this period, I also had the opportunity to collaborate in the European Project FP7 Capacities "Future Cities" (FP7-REGPOT-2012-2013-1) with technical support during pollutant measurement campaigns for the calibration of low-cost sensors through reference instruments. I started working as a fellow in the EMISSHIP project (PTDC/CTA-AMB/32201/2017) focusing my work on the assessment of atmospheric emissions from ships and their impacts, having published three articles as the first author in this period (two published in the renowned journal Environmental Pollution and one in Journal of Environmental Management, an oral communication and two-panel presentations. Of these scientific items, I highlight the article "Assessment of shipping emissions on four major ports of Portugal" because it was the first scientific publication to quantify emissions from international ships in Portugal. In 2019 I was awarded the FCT PhD scholarship under the topic "Towards reducing atmospheric emissions from shipping - Forecasting and assessing human health impact" and have been developing work in this area since then. Since I started my PhD program, I have been deepening my skills in air quality modelling and health impact assessment and monetization (EMEP model, WRF model, AERMOD, CALPUFF, GIS tools, R software, Fortran language and Linux skills and others) of ship-related emissions, having published three articles as first author and five oral communications. I also collaborated with the Universidad de Cádiz in the ArRisCO project and with the University of São Paulo in Brazil.
