Infrastructure And Database Architect
CurrentIn August 2009 2DegreesMobile was launched as the exciting new entrant into the mobile service providing arena as the third mobile phone network for New Zealand. During the pre-launch period I was the sole DBA in charge of architecting, implementing and performance tuning of all application and database environment.• Designed, built, optimized, administered and maintained all RAC and standalone databases in 10gR2 and 11g, including EM Grid monitoring singlehandedly• Launched and carried out the ‘Project Cleanout’. Identified danger areas such as fast growing tables with no purging/archiving policy, sql's with lack of bind variables, unindexed tables and/or poor design. CPU utilization came down from 95% to 35%• Successfully designed, coordinated and drove the ‘upgrade to 11g Release 2’ project. The project involved upgrading our RAC 10g database to 11gR2 along with Grid Infrastructure, while upgrading the OS to RHEL5• Optimized kernel parameters on all Linux servers using Oracle, e.g. HugePages, semaphores, shared memory parameters etc• Created and initiated an internal auditing policy and security compliance control and standard.• Instrumental in testing, choosing and implementing our main backup product (Commvault)• Designed, implemented and configured Oracle Data Guard on ASM and GoldenGate for disaster recovery• Successfully planned and executed the ‘SAN Migration Project’. Migrated all our databases including our datawarehouse (17TB) and application from EVA 4400 to EMC VNX 5700 SAN• Successfully designed, Initiated and created a proof of concept for use of BIGDATA (Hadoop, MapReduce) to analyse and extract information from daily CDR's• Built, documented and enforced a standard for the Company for all database creation, builds and naming conventions based upon best practices and OFA methodologies.• Conducting monthly meetings with Senior Management to update and discuss present and future projects, technologies and requirements
