Rahul Gupta is an Assistant Professor in Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business and a Senior Policy Scholar at the Center for Business and Public Policy. His research examines phenomena affecting personnel and spatial organization of firms as well as impacts on workers through technological innovation. This research has practical implications for business and public policy at the city and national levels.Gupta’s main research areas are in labor, organizational, and urban economics. Broadly speaking, he describes how firm behavior in local labor markets impact outcomes such as income inequality, spatial clustering of innovative activity and entrepreneurship, and technological change. One research stream discusses the site selection processes for large firms and their impact on the structure of local firms and workers where they locate to evaluate the welfare implications of subsidies. Another research strand seeks to understand the relationship between housing markets and the migration of industry production and innovation using historical patents. Rahul is a Special Sworn Status researcher at the U.S. Census Bureau. He uses restricted-use administrative tax and Census records on the universe of businesses and workers in ongoing projects related to local labor markets and firm dynamics.
