Here is a detailed overview of the process:Crude Oil Input:10,000 kg of crude palm oil (CPO) is brought into the refinery.Physical Refining:Degumming: 200 kg of phosphoric acid is added for degumming, resulting in 150 kg of separated gums.Neutralization: 800 kg of caustic soda is used for neutralization, yielding 300 kg of soapstock.Bleaching: 1000 kg of bleaching earth is added, producing 900 kg of spent earth.Deodorization: 1000 kg of steam is used, resulting in 9500 kg of deodorized oil.Utilities:5000 kg of water and 2000 kg of steam are consumed during the process.Product Output:The final product is 9500 kg of refined palm oil.By-Products and Waste:150 kg of separated gums300 kg of soapstock900 kg of spent earthLosses and Yield Calculation:Total input: 10,000 kg CPOTotal output: 9500 kg refined oilLosses: 500 kg (due to gums, soapstock, spent earth, etc.)Yield: (Output / Input) * 100 = (9500 / 10,000) * 100 = 95%This hands-on experience provided me with valuable insights into the complexities of the refining process and the importance of each step in ensuring the production of high-quality refined palm oil.
