About Rajeev Goyal

Originally from Rajasthan, India and brought up in Long Island, Rajeev Goyal possesses over 20 years' experience working with community non-profits and social movements to foster resilient biocultural heritage territorialities globally.  In 2020, he helped start Cloud Forest Fund (CF1), a NY-based foundation providing support to projects in 16 countries, from the Amazon Rainforest to Borneo to the Annamites, supporting indigenous communities to protect their land, biodiversity and waters from a lattice of interwoven threats including illegal road, extraction, overfishing, industrial monocultures, logging and deforestation. Subsequently, CF1 helped nurture Cloud Forest Community Foundation (CF2), a public foundation aimed at fostering resilient biocultural territorialities and community wellbeing. Through Cloud Forest, some of the last primary forests containing the rarest, most beautiful primates on earth like the Snub-Nosed Monkey, are being protected from extinction. Using a healing and nourishing approach, espousing indigenous values of reciprocity, solidarity, and balance for future generations, CF2 seeks to nurture and nourish the Pluriverse, and its people, including the places they live, love, and protect with All Our Relations.  Prior to Cloud Forest, Rajeev co-founded 'Vertical University' - a response to ecosystem fragmentation, land grabbing and threats to indigenous territorialities in eastern Nepal. The project, which aimed to create an open-air biocultural corridor from Koshi Tappu wetlands to the Kanchenjunga highlands, helped develop a new apparatus for indigenous led conservation, education and resilient livelihoods, through a ‘Learning Grounds’ approach. As part of this, Rajeev supported the effort to establish a 371,000-acre roadless landscape for the Bhote, Dhokpya, and Limbu communities between Makalu and Kanchenjunga, an area crucial to snow leopards, blue sheep, red pandas, and thousands of rare medicinal plants and fungi of the high Himalayas. A graduate of Brown University, Cornell, and NYU School of Law, Rajeev's first book, 'The Springs of Namje' tells his personal story as a volunteer teacher in rural Nepal in the Peace Corps, and his subsequent efforts to lobby the U.S. Congress to increase Peace Corps funding. Rajeev speaks Hindi, Nepali, Mandarin and Spanish.
