The role of the Principal Technologist is to lead the discipline community and set standards for the discipline in line with global standards. Principal technologist plays a key role in development and deployment of new technologies. Principal technologist plays a leading role in knowledge management, skill development, training and intellectual property right protection. Principal technologist acts as the gatekeeper and has overall responsibility to ensure good health of the discipline at all times.Thermal conversion techniques have been around for more than 60 years. Shell has been at the forefront of developing and optimizing the technology since inception. Shell accounts for about 40% of all worldwide thermal conversion capacity and has licensed more than 125 units. To withstand Thermal Conversion technology in future technology transformation is required to reposition the technology against changing external environment.Principal Technologist is required to play a key role in repositioning technology for the future through continuous focus on new technology development, especially in light of IMO spec change for fuel oil and energy transition which poses challenge to refinery configurations to shift to zero fuel oil and maximize chemicals feedstock production. Principal technologist assists in development of skill and assign technical authority within the discipline. Principal technologist plays a key role in updating and creating knowledge documents.
