Profile bio

About Rakesh Ranjan, Ph.D.

I am an application engineer with specialization in Agricultural automation, Internet of Things, Big data analytics, Weather data aided crop stress modeling, Remote sensing, and alternate spraying technology. I am working on the development of an Internet of Things aided crop physiology sensing tool for sunburn monitoring and management in horticulture crops. Such tools utilize remote sensing and weather/microclimate data for abiotic stress assessment in perennial specialty crops. Such low-cost technologies can be adopted by growers for reliable water and energy-efficient crop loss management. Moreover, my research work also aims to develop an alternate spray technology with a minimized off-target drift for efficient and non-hazardous spray applications. As a senior engineer for automotive advanced engineering and doctoral research scholar, I have worked with a diverse team of professors, scientists, extension specialists, and growers to hone my technical, leadership, and management skills. Moreover, I am also actively involved in teaching/mentoring and various extension/outreach activities. My future goal is to contribute to the research and development of grower-oriented automation tools for enhancement in food production and safety.

Listed skills include Powerpoint, Microsoft Office, Product Development, Marketing Strategy, and 11 others.
