  My primary role as a NHM researcher is to develop and execute taxonomic and systematics research and medical entomological studies on mosquitoes (Culicidae) of medical and scientific importance, including collaborative, integrated, multidisciplinary research. Most of my research is focused on the morphology, taxonomy, phylogeny and classification of mosquitoes. My principal aspirations are to document the diversity of mosquitoes and establish a natural and testable classification of the Culicidae that can be used as a foundation for more detailed studies of their biology and medical importance. My research spans the spectrum of taxonomic categories from species to family. A hallmark of my work has been the advancement of insights into the evolutionary relationships among medically important species and groups of species as a result of collaborative studies. These studies generate hypotheses for investigating biological phenomena from an evolutionary perspective and a framework for investigating the co-evolution of pathogenic organisms and mosquitoes. Another aspect of my work involves the application of integrated approaches to investigate sibling species complexes and taxonomic groups of malaria and arbovirus vectors. This research provides a foundation for further investigations of vector taxa.
