About Ram Kumar, Ph.D.
I am a Principal Investigator (PI) currently working at CSIR-Advanced Materials & Processes Research Institute Bhopal and Asst. Prof., Academy of Scientific & Innovative Research (AcSIR). My core area of research is in Materials Science, Solid-State Chemistry, Process Engineering, advanced TEM techniques (typically aberration-corrected atomic-resolution STEM/TEM, in situ imaging, EELS, etc.) and electrochemistry. I conceive and elaborate original materials synthesis methodologies and experimental methods to achieve the desired phases with required functional attributes. The objectives of these research efforts are to achieve new materials with enhanced performances, or develop more efficient processes for existing technologies with lower CO2 footprint, energy consumption and production costs.However, at the core of this are fundamental materials chemistry, spectroscopy and structural characterization techniques. With expertise in these domains of research, I pursue my research in the lab to contribute to these objectives.When not at work I enjoy workout at Gym, meditation and music. I also enjoy reading about the impact of Science and Technological Advancement on the economy and the rise of nations/civilizations. Serb Ramanujan Faculty Fellow
I received the prestigious Ramanujan Fellowship award in Feb 2023 from the Science & Engineering Research Board (SERB)-Govt. of India. I availed the fellowship at IISER Trivandrum. I started investigation of active sites in chalcogenide based heterogeneous catalysts. Chalcogenide heterogeneous catalysts are extensively used in hydroprocessing and are of interest as an electrocatalyst for green hydrogen. An efficeincy gain can have significant ramifications in large scale petroleum refining processes and maybe in future green hydrogen projects.

I worked at the National Center for Electron Microsopy (NCEM) -Lawrence Berkeley National Lab to solve some of the challenging problems in Materials Science & Hetrogeneous Catalysis employing various TEM techniques. I worked as a postdoctoral research scholar at the Dept. of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering- UC Berkeley. The project involved synthesis metodolgies development and advanced TEM techniques. During my research at UC Berkeley I extensively collaborated with various stake-holders in Industry (Chevron Corp.) and scientists at LBL resulting in publication and process technologies improvement.

I received postdoctoral fellowship and lecturership (ATER) from the prestigious French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and College de France Foundation Paris and worked at the CNRS UMR 7574 Laboratoire de chimie de la matière condensée de Paris (LCMCP) located at the Sorbonne University Jussieu Paris Campus. College de France Paris is among the most prestigious research establishments in France Established in 1530. During my research in Paris I had the exciting opprotunity to learn materials science and solid-state chemistry in-depth, collaborate and work as a team with CNRS labs in Strasbourg and Normandy. I extensively interacted with researchers from different countries in EU while working in the lab and my stay at the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris (CIUP) campus.
