I need data and I need it now... Sound familiar? In today's world it fuels the decisions we make, and I help provide that crucial information. My research and analysis with SQL and Oracle database on data usage was paramount as it was used in time-sensitive law enforcement requests and legal cases. Fulfilling these requests was exciting and really made me feel like I was making a difference in peoples' lives.Being an admin for powerful business intelligence servers like Tableau taught me there is a delicate balance between quenching users' thirsts for the latest and greatest while evaluating the most stable and bug-free versions they will be happy with.At my most recent role as a product manager I focused on cost reporting and FinOps. With a multi-tenant datalake SQL engine costing the platform team $1.3 million a year, I worked on a goal to showback then chargeback users rather than have the cost charged to the platform team. I also drove the importance of lights on/doors open maintenance activities with engineering teams to help lower the occurance of incidents and revenue loss.I've shared a great responsibility in managing 9 petabytes of data on a Hadoop production cluster as well as over 800 servers across multiple environments. I actually enjoyed learning the power of Linux command line and using it every day. I learned deployment tools like Chef and Ansible, worked on performance tuning when the cluster would slow down, managed streaming data ingestion through Kafka, and educated users on optimizing queries that didn't bring the system to a screeching halt. One interesting project I worked on at Expedia was scanning for PCI or PII data as it pertains to GDPR data privacy compliance.I partnered with a variety of engineering teams that ranged from artificial intelligence / machine learning, to platform teams supporting large scale SQL and NoSQL databases. I developed dashboards to show these reliability metrics and review with my VP and other managers on a regular cadence. One tool I have really embraced at Expedia is the power of ServiceNow. Its suite of tools such as granular reporting, CMDB, and integration with other tools like Jira really enabled me to easily track important data that I can convey to others.Other skills include:- Incident management and reporting- Problem and change management- Service level agreements/indicators/objectives- Reducing toilRegarding my other passions, I love cars, music, and Jeopardy. I'm currently on a quest to find venues where I can compete at a higher level with trivia games.
