Satellite Technician for the Afghanistan/Iraq Theater of Operation for the SPAWAR/DRS Internet Cafe’s supporting the military overseas. Responsible for installing numerous Internet Café systems that supported up to 20 computers and 10 VoIP phones to ensure the morale of the troops was maintained at all times with little or no supervision in hostile areas in Afghanistan and Iraq. Ensured the proper operation, testing, and repair of iDirect TDMA satellite modems, Cisco IP routers, various switches assigning IP addresses to switches and MAC filtering the switch. Conducted the installation of multiple 2.4, 1.8 and 1.2 meter VSAT satellite dishes. Ran and fabricated RF coaxial cable and CAT5 network cable. Installed block upconverters (BUC) and low-noise block down converters (LNB). Configured Linksys 901’s and Cisco 7905, 7912, 7911 VOIP Phones for Internet Cafes. Provide 24 hour technician and customer support. Configured and installed over 40 R200 Dell servers. Prepare and present network layouts using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Identify, analyze, and resolve problems with satellite terminals around Iraq and Afghanistan using required iSite software. Coordinate with other technicians and network operations personnel (NOC) to ensure each satellite terminal is working to optimum levels. Conducted site surveys for installation of satellite systems, also updated trouble tickets using BMC Remedy, and wrote up status reports for satellite systems at local and remote sites for weekly management reports. Installed several Polycom VTC webcam software on computers for customers to have contact with family members in hospitals or military meetings areas.
