I first played with fire when I was sixteen and I've been hooked since. Wildfire Management is a dynamic profession which is never static always bringing the team different conditions with new challenges that requires us to flexible in the heat of the moment. At the age of 21 I began fighting wildland fire seasonally as an Initial attack member and remained there for a few years before being promoted even though I was much younger than my peers. Currently I am enrolled at Macewan university majoring in business, minoring in biology, Once I complete my degree in accounting I will be hanging up the fireproof gear after ten years and declining the remote trips into the boreal forest to pursue my career. I have been fortunate to have met those who have motivated and mentored me in several aspects such as accountability, communication, leadership, patience and safety. My Journey in wildland firefighting operations has given me a broad spectrum of experiences, beginning with my first helicopter flight at sixteen as an emergency forest firefighter. I have done things such as community protection, initial attack and sustained action campaigns as a crew member, and a crew leader. I have participated in two fire research studies with the Canadian Forest Service. I have also taught the firefighter training course three times successfully, having also proctored the WFX fit for the first time last year.In 2015 I joined up with the volunteer ambulance service and am an ongoing member of the service. I obtained my certification as a licensed Emergency Medical Responder in November 2015, being with the service has given me a sense of community and a different kind of camaraderie that is hard to explain. You don’t always see the best of people, but it has its moments. To say I have been perfect would be misleading, but we are the sum total of our actions and I am exactly who I’m supposed to be.
