The City of South Lyon is located near the crossroads of Interstate 96 and US 23, in the southwest corner of Oakland County, Michigan. It is 3.5 square miles in size with a city population of 11,036.The City of South Lyon operates its own water system as well as its own sanitary and storm sewer lines. The Water Department oversees the treatment and distribution of the city's water, water quality testing to ensure that the it meets all applicable quality standards, and water billing.The City of South Lyon's water system is serviced by three wells ranging in depth from 120 to 125 feet deep. In 2002, a Water Plant renovation added more iron filtration and pumping capacity. The city has one million gallon ground storage tank with a 500,000 gallon elevated water tower which supplies water pressure to the city at 60-70 psi. The city also operates it's own Wastewater Treatment Facility, which is designed to treat 1.5 million gallons daily. After treatment, water is discharged into Yerkes Drain, which flows west to the Huron River.
