Ph.D Candidate
As a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences, the primary focus of my research includes development of nano-enabled technologies for drinking water treatment. I explore catalytic treatment of drinking water using the unique properties of nanostructured catalysts to perform hydrogenation, photocatalytic, and electro-catalytic treatment techniques. Additional projects include nanoparticle fate and and transport in aquatic systems. My primary research areas include: -water treatment-analytical chemistry-heterogeneous catalysis-photocatalysis-nanoparticle synthesis-stream ecology and water quality-sustainable energy-hydrogenation catalysisIn the course of my research, I have developed expertise in instrumentation including:-ion chromatography-FTIR-ATR (in situ)-UV-Vis spectroscopy-Raman-GC-XPS-XRD-DSC-BET-ICP-potentiometry
Graduate Teaching Assistant
I served as a teaching assistant for a variety of courses offered by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences. These courses include: Water Chemistry and Treatment, Intro to Environmental Engineering, and Engineering Programming. As a teaching assistant, my primary responsibilities included leading study sessions for students, hosting office hours to assist students with specific questions, and grading student assignments.
Undergraduate Research Assistant
As an undergraduate researcher under Dr. Fernando Uribe-Romo, I focused on development of visible light active photocatalytic metal organic frameworks (MOFs).
Laboratory Analyst
My primary responsibilities included analysis of industrial oil and grease samples using various chemical and physical techniques including FT-IR, RDE, Karl Fischer and rheology. I communicated these results to customers in nuclear, wind energy and pharmaceutical industries in the United States and Europe and made recommendations for improving equipment health. I also developed new analytical techniques that allowed MRG to expand company services to new industries and communicated the value of these services through Trade Journals.
