Principal/Project Lead Engineer For Hardware Development
Spent 2 years developing the original system, boards, and FPGAs for the Trailblazer Product lines - a fixed point to multi-point proprietary long haul 512K wireless communication system. This radio is capable of integrating direct phone line to a channel bank as wireless transportation for mixed 2-wire, POTS, 4-wire E&M and Ethernet data with wireline quality service over distances greater than 50 miles. My responsibilities included system definition, board design, FPGA coding, hardware development, and system/board documentation and test. For the next 8 years I continued as lead consultant for additional feature enhancement and product updates.In 1998, Carlson began working with engineers at Harris Semiconductor, to convert its Prism WLAN chipset into a full-duplex, digital TDMA technology. This work produced Trailblazer, the industry’s first low-cost transparent n x 64 kb/s extension from a Class 5 central office. Trailblazer, which quickly became a popular solution in the public safety industry for simulcast systems and leased line emulation, continues to sell steadily today.Carlson Wireless Technologies, Inc., which Carlson founded in 1999 built its name on the success and reliability of Trailblazer. The product line expanded in 2008 with the launch of the LongHaul, an affordable, long-range Wi-Fi/WiMAX hybrid product for backhaul and Ethernet bridging.
Principal/Project Lead Engineer For Hardware Development
Used for Development and upgrade of Stride/Velocity 2000 product line. System was a 2.4G/3.5G spread spectrum fixed wireless point to multipoint radio providing toll quality voice and data to the home. Primarily responsible for Customer Premise Equipment for this project and troubleshooting of other designs. The CPE included PCB and FPGA Hardware design and their testing and specification. Past ASIC experience was used to troubleshoot and externally correct flaws found in the Custom CDMA ASIC in the system. This project passed through several company transitions. I was a key player and was passed with the sale and resale of the project.
Sr. Asic Designer
Sr. ASIC Designer used to develop ASICs and FPGAs for various telecom equipment. Was the Lead designer and spec writer of the Lower Order Path OH Monitor LPOM ASIC for DSC’s SONET based iMTN system. This chip extracted Payload data (E1,T1, T2) from SONET Frame and monitored the OH information associated with this data. Performed all levels of ASIC development, Test, and Documentation.

Used in the telecom group for my board design abilities, I was also shared out to the Govmt. Systems group on a consulting basis for H.S. design and SONET expertise.
Mts 2 Lead Asic Designer
Used to develop King Tut DS-3 Intf ASIC for OC3 and OC12 SONET systems. Prior to this company I worked with many communication systems, both wired and optical. My experience pre-dates the standardization of the optical systems and includes both European and stateside standard electrical interfaces.
