Ranee Runnebaum, Pharm.D. is the Medication Safety Manager at Oregon Health and Science University Hospital in Portland, Oregon. Her varied career includes informatics pharmacist; clinical pharmacist; clinical coordinator and assistant manager.As the medication safety manager Ranee is responsible for identifying best practices in medication safety for the organization. She provides oversight for prioritizing and advocating for patient safety initiatives related to design and implementation of systems. Additionally, Ranee offers guidance for an interdisciplinary approach in applying these initiatives and best practices at OHSU.Prior to her current role as Medication Safety Manager, Ranee was an informatics pharmacist for 7 years. While maintaining her skills as a clinical pharmacist she has moved her career path into a system approach for evaluation of safety. The medication safety officer position provides Ranee an avenue to utilize sixteen years of combined clinical and informatics experience. Ranee has a doctor of pharmacy degree from Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Allied Health. She also completed a general pharmacy residency at Temple University Hospital. She is currently a member of the board of directors for the Oregon Society of Health System Pharmacists. Ranee is continuing her education in health information by pursuing a master’s degree in Health Information Management through the University of Missouri at Columbia.
