Current

The focus of my work is on researching and rapidly prototyping key principles & technologies for mission decision-making and human-autonomy interaction, as well as the consideration of legal, ethical and safety concerns regarding the use of autonomy and AI. I lead a multi-disciplinary team internal and external to the company to research, design and rapidly prototype concepts. My activities involve creating and maintaining the strategy, vision, roadmap and backlog of tasks through the project's lifecycle that reflect the stakeholder’s requirement for a future air system. I work closely with the team to generate the design and requirements for prototyping by software team, and I oversee the concept prototyping and demonstration.

Apr 2020 - Present

Mission Systems Engineer - Technical Lead

I was a Technical Lead on the AMS DE-RISC R&D programme led by the UK MoD’s Dstl researching, developing and de-risking advanced mission systems technologies for air products. During the AMS DE-RISC programme, I technically managed multiple work activities at the same time. The work covered simulator trials for pilot workload assessments to inform HMI and future technology research, mission and task analysis of mission scenarios, and researching communications solutions for platforms operating in challenging environments.

Jan 2019 - Mar 2022

Mission Systems Engineer

My key activities were to support the Autonomy Lead at that time, to create a strategy for collaborative and manned-unmanned teaming. I also developed the Autonomy roadmap, which is used to guide the R&D work and has been communicated to various stakeholders.

Jan 2020 - Apr 2020

Mission Systems Engineer - Communications Lead

I developed the concept of a dynamic emissions manager (primarily for communications) for on-platform use and oversaw the development the concept. A demonstration of the concept was held for key stakeholders, where I presented the concept and provided them with an "under-the-hood" view of the work.In response to customer requirements, I further enhanced the intelligent communications and information management system concept for inter-platform communications, and I oversaw its development. A demonstration of the concept was provided to internal and external stakeholders external, where I presented the concept and provided them with an "under-the-hood" view of the work.

2016 - Dec 2018

Mission Systems Engineer

I researched, designed and oversaw the development of a dynamic, flexible, resilient communications and information management system for inter-platform communications. A demonstration of the concept was held for key stakeholders, where I presented the concept and talked through the different stages of the demonstration. In collaboration with other technical experts, two novel ad hoc networking concepts addressing aerospace challenges was devised. This was subsequently developed by the technical experts in simulation and demonstrated.

Jan 2012 - 2016

Senior Systems Engineer

I developed and demonstrated a novel Ethernet-based deterministic, fault-tolerant data network concept for current and projected aircraft, leveraging open standards to overcome obsolescence issues common to bespoke technologies. In collaboration with my colleagues, an optical version of the novel data network was also developed and demonstrated.I also worked closely with other researchers internal and external to the company, collaborating to shape fibre optic technology for current and future aerospace products.
