Joined Coke oven & Byproduct plant of IISCO, Burnpur in 1984 as Management Trainee (Technical) and worked for five years in coke oven operation, heating and commissioning. Then switched over to CET/SAIL (Centre for Engineering & Technology), an in-house consultancy division of SAIL and tendered consultancy services in area of coke oven projects consisting of Battery proper, Oven machine, Byproduct unit, Coke dry cooling unit and coal handling plant. Rendered consultancy services in the are of Environment & pollution control and Coal washery projects also. Became HOD of Coal, Coke & Chemical section and finally superannuated as Chief General Manager (Coal,Coke & Chemical, Projects & MR) from CET/SAIL in Sep 2020 after 36 years of working in SAIL.Rebuilding of coke oven Battery No. 5, 1,2,7 at Bokaro, Battery No. 5, 2 at Rourkela, Battery No.5 at Durgapur, Battery No. 5,6, 9, 7 & 8 at Bhilai steel plant and setting up a new 125 tpd Sulphuric Acid plant at Bokaro are the important projects handled from our section.During this period, a green field project i.e. implementation of a complete coke oven complex consisting of a 7 m tall coke oven battery, Coke dry quenching unit, Oven machines with land base pushing emission control system and a dedicated Coal chemical plant with H2S removal unit at Rourkela Steel Plant was assigned to me as a task force leader. Total project value was around Rs.1100 Crore. Being the task force leader, complete design & engineering services, starting from preparation of tender specifications, evaluation of bids, approval of drawings, designer’ supervision during execution & commissioning of the project were provided from CET under my leadership. Plant is in operation since its commissioning in April 2013.Revival of the existing coal washery at Durgapur Steel Plant was studied by me and a study report was prepared involving different alternatives and float & sink analysis of coal. Consultancy services was rendered to S & T Mining for setting up 1.8 mtpa coal washery plant at Bhelatan. Feasibility report was prepared for up gradation of Chasnala Coal washery of SAIL from 1.3 mtpa to 4.0 mtpa.
