In digital, data and technology, I worked with African governments, international organizations and large foundations to promote the use of data science for labor markets, foreign direct investment, healthcare, agriculture, and financial inclusion. Project work in inclusive growth included working with a broad array of investors, government counterparts and donors to attract private sector investment, boost exports, and develop industrialization and job creation strategies in Senegal, Liberia, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Kenya and Armenia within sectors such as manufacturing, ICT/tech, agriculture, energy, and tourism. During COVID-19, I supported West African governments in responding to COVID-19 and deepening their preparedness for future public health emergencies and in strengthening domestic and international supply chains of essential goods.Representing Dalberg, I also coached tech start-ups in Senegal, Mali, and Côte d’Ivoire, and served as a facilitator and judge for innovation labs and hackathons, including the Jack Ma Foundation Africa’s Business Heroes Prize, the UNLEASH SDG innovation lab in Shenzhen, China, and MIT’s Africa Takes on COVID-19 Hackathon. I also ran the Dal’preneur pro-bono consulting initiative at Dalberg Dakar.

I worked with the Ministry of Finance of a West African country to design the second five-year phase of their flagship national development plan and helped develop a data strategy for a multi-stakeholder alliance in agriculture to most effectively benefit smallholder farmers in East and Southern Africa.

Amongst other projects, I supported a major foundation to develop strategic priorities in their work on refugees and humanitarian response in Rwanda and helped a medium-sized European foundation develop a new five-year strategy for their program for empowering children living in rural poverty to learn.

I have observed elections for the OSCE in Uzbekistan and Armenia. After a comprehensive briefing, short-term election observers scrutinize the polling, counting and tabulation procedures. Findings go into the final assessment of the given electionThe Peace and Stabilization Response Force (Freds- og Stabiliseringsberedskabet) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark supports peace, stability and democratic governance in fragile and conflict-affected areas, incl. election observation missions for the EU and OSCE.

The title of my thesis was "Culture and Institutions: Studying Subnational Regimes, Immigrants and Moving Borders"​. I submitted it to the Department of Political Science at the University of Copenhagen on Nov. 14th 2016 and defended it on February 24th 2017. My thesis adviser was Professor Peter Thisted Dinesen.My dissertation concerned subnational regime transitions and culture, religion and institutions more broadly. I used a variety of methods in my work, including quantitative analysis, geographic information systems (GIS), and carried out fieldwork in Brazil and India. I also led research assistants in Copenhagen and overseas for a large-scale data collection project that won a Sapere Aude research grant of 6.4 million DKK (~$1 million).I spent the late spring and early summer of 2016 at Stanford finishing up my dissertation. Before that, I spent the academic year of 2012-2013 as a Fulbright Visiting Fellow at the Department of Government at Harvard University, also taking courses at the Departments of Economics and Sociology and attending weekly research workshops and seminars.I taught 'Research Methods I'​, 'Research Methods II'​ as well as the courses 'Democracy, the State and International Development'​ (Fall 2014) and 'Authoritarian States: Political and Economic Change'​ (spring 2015), both of the latter with associate professor Jacob Gerner Hariri. I also lectured in the compulsory course 'Comparative Politics'​ and supervised master's theses on development, authoritarianism and corruption.Finally, I served as the president of the PhD Club (tillidsmand) and on the department's Cooperation Committee as well as the PhD Programme Committee.
