A Ñuu Savi Indigenous poet from San Miguelito, Tlaxiaco, Oaxaca, Mexico. His verses and short stories have earned national and international recognition. His struggle defending the land, forest and the rights of Indigenous people have gave to him imprisonment, disappearance, torture and exile. In 2005 he arrived as refugee in Vancouver and become a Canadian Citizen in 2014.He Co-found the Cencerro Art and Cultural Association and is the editor of El Cencerro (The Cow Bell) online cultural magazine: httpelcencerro.ca/ He has been published in English and Spanish. Some of his most well known books are Borrowed Character, Shoes on the Rocks (anthology of six Latinamerican writers in Canada) and Broken Man, his latest book, won the international award in poetry. Raul described himself in one of his poems:You once said:"you are a hero"But I was only a man with patches,miseries,and mud.A guy smeared with a bad reputation.A subversive Indian with a broken heart.But what broken man isn't patched up with mud?His passions to defend and organize the most vulnerable people make him a great advocate for Temporary Foreign Workers, specially farm workers. He have been helping them them in BC since 2006 till now. For that he Co-founded several organizations to support them.
