The Data Management Specialist assist the Alaska FisheriesScience Center's (AFSC) Fisheries Monitoring and Analysis Division (FMA) with datamanagement. The position is located at the Alaska Fisheries Science Center, 7600Sandpoint Way N.E., Seattle, Washington. The job duties of this position areassess, track and ensure that data collected by fisheries observers meets data qualitystandards.This position reports to the Debriefing Services Supervisor and is primarilyresponsible for:-Serving as an inseason advisor for fisheries observers deployed to commercialfishing vessels.-Conducting mid-cruise debriefings of fisheries observers during theirdeployment to commercial fishing vessels.-Conducting final debriefings of fisheries observers at the completion of theirdeployment to commercial fishing vessel.-Ensuring the data collection methods used by fisheries observers are consistentwith the programs' established procedures.-Ensuring that all data collected by fisheries observers meets the program'sdata quality standards.-Assisting fisheries observers to resolve data collection and recording problems.-Assisting in the briefing of fisheries observers prior to their deployment.-Interacting with members of the fishing industry to assess whether their vesselmeets Federal requirements for fisheries observer sample stations.-Working and communicating with FMA staff to ensure data integrity andconsistency.

Marine Biologist working as Purser/Data Manager for Glacier Fish Company (Seattle). Responsible for assisting onboard managers with the administration of their duties, communicating vessel information and needs to the Seattle office and governmental agencies as required, provide medical assistance and treatment to injured/ill crewmembers, inspect fresh and frozen products to guarantee company quality standards. In addition, maintain records of inspections and observations collected and reports, administer health and safety program onboard vessel, updates and maintains fishing/NMFS/CDQ/ADFG/USCG/Vessel docking/paperwork, and required logs up to date and maintains OSHA/EPA, daily logs, paperwork, provides various OSHA training for crew and conducts EPA quarterly water tests and ensure vessel is in compliance, manages the Vessel’s quota per tow, reconciles, and updates changes as directed by office. Lastly, acts as administrative liaison between crew and HR, coordinate any onboard complaints and/or investigations under direction of the Master and Safety and Compliance Manager, in charge of all final decision-making regarding QA and conduct daily monitoring duties referred to quality standards parameters.

Marine Biologist working as a lead observer collecting biological data for fisheries management for the National Marine Fisheries Service (USA) aboard commercial fishing vessel operating in the Bering Sea, Aleutian Island, Gulf of Alaska and the Northwest coast of Washington an Oregon. My responsibilities include collecting information on fishing effort, locations and catch estimate, marine species identification, design and application of sampling protocols to determine species composition of catch and bycatch.
