My role in the project was to design an efficient Gas turbine backed Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) reliably producing high pressure steam at rated parameters for process plant. This experience included extensive use of design codes like ASME, API, etc. and use of Project Management principles on daily basis to help keep project ahead of its schedule.The above experience allowed me to be part of proposal team where my role was to propose design for heat recovery system for a brown-field EPC fertilizer project, which later was awarded into project.Major responsibilities and achievements:• Created design basis for Heat recovery steam generator (HRSG).• Cost estimation and preparation of the Bill of material (BOM) for Mechanical equipment.• Conducted Design Failure Mode & Effect Analysis (DFMEA) and HAZOP to study & prevent equipment failures.• Developed a risk assessment and mitigation plan for HRSG resulting in eradication of 11 risks in detail engineering phase.• Designed Boiler/HRSG pressure parts using ASME codes and design review of piping, valves, pumps & casing insulation.• Created 2D & 3D models for equipment/tools along with review of datasheets, Process flow diagram (PFD), Piping & Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID), cause & effect diagrams & DCS PLC I/O lists.• Using project management principles on regular basis & prioritizing tasks using Critical activity monitoring system, resulting in prior project completion.
Manufacturing Intern
Internship in Welding department at fabrication facility of Super-critical Boiler. In depth detail of welding technology used for Super-critical boiler pressure parts (Low-alloy steels). Tasks : To create a database of most probable welding defects for dis-similar metal welding for Boiler pressure parts and to implement continuous improvement techniques of Kaizen and 5S resulting in better manufacturing efficiency from raw metal treatment to finished product quality assurance.Results/Impact:After a detail study for 6 weeks of different welding techniques on Boiler headers, pipes and coils, created a database which points out the most probable welding defect for various combinations of materials and welding technique. Later this database was further detailed by welding department to reduce the defects by fine-tuning the welding parameters.Implemented the concepts of Kaizen and 5S and provided recommendations for the rearrangement of quality assurance tools and equipment location reducing the relocation distance of pressure part for quality check.
