Floating Wetland Solutions provides product solutions to improve water quality and ecological health of water bodies throughout our watersheds. Our product solutions leverage broadly accepted natural science mechanisms that complement and mimic nature for multiple benefits.Our solutions optimize site specific conditions such as oxygen levels, nutrient types and loading, with the product or products necessary for the desired outcomes. Our products typically include a platform for plants and are based around engineered materials and system designs that promote healthy biofilm communities of microorganisms. Biofilm is a complex structure adhering to surfaces that are regularly in contact with water, consisting of colonies of bacteria that secrete a “sticky film” known as extracellular polymeric substance (EPS). The plant roots and the engineered materials create an ideal substratum for biofilm development. The biofilm substratum provides physical filtration and biological activity to break down or sequester organic matter, and it serves as food for fish and other wildlife. For some products and solutions, aeration is provided to enhance biological activity and to reduce high biological oxygen demand (BOD). Our materials are engineered for superior performance and durability. We have a proprietary polyethylene terephthalate (PET) non-woven formulation that has 3 times greater tensile strength than any other PET provider. Our formulation includes a UV inhibitor and in addition we add a cementitious spray covering that reduces UV degradation to nearly zero.
