For new viewers who don't know me personally but are curious to learn more, here is my version of a README. It reveals some thoughts/quirks/facts about me:1. I consider myself lucky that I met a suitable wife, now 20 years married.2. I'm a father of 5. Raising kids makes you a life-long learner.3. People who meet me comment that they feel as though they've known me all their life.4. Almost anywhere I go, even far away from home, I'm bound to run into someone I know, or find some connection to a person that knows someone I know.5. I grew up with the notion of foregoing play until after the day's work is done. I've seriously had to rethink this and make adjustments in the age of the digital "always on" world we now find ourselves in.6. I'm a self-improvement junkie. I value working out, reading, learning, growing. That self-improvement bug has never left me, yet.7. Something you should know about me and being a team player: I'll give 110%, and at a fault I will be harder on myself than on my teammates.8. What I expect from you: Show me, don't tell me.9. Numbers are meant to be cold, calculating, revealing. They fall apart when used to gage intangibles, or when manipulated to sway public opinion such as for so-called polls. Take a 100-meter sprint. At the end we have a measured time. End of story. Nothing to dispute. The cold hard facts revealed by the stop watch give finality to the matter. But a figure-skating score or gymnastics score, well, that's a different story. There's an element of subjectivity to that. It's unsettling. Likewise, trying to quantify your spiritual or other intangible area of your life with a number will, at best, be frustrating. Let's use numbers for objective, not subjective purposes.10. I'm a family-man. I prefer not to be away for an extended period of time. But...when duty calls I don't make a fuss of it. And I've been fortunate in my working life to have had the privilege to go to some amazing places I probably wouldn't have ever considered traveling to.11. You speak of diversity, but I want to know: how diverse is the music you listen to? How diverse are the people you invite into your life? The kinds of food you eat? Such answers are revealing.10.
