And I think that that’s the great benefit of being in the arts, where the possibility for learning never disappears, where you basically have to admit you never learn it.”Saul BassThis pretty much sums it up better than I ever could...but as a lecturer and designer I have always continued striving, journeys hold so much more than arrival.In 2013 Film Design International initiated a collaborative venture with The University of West London and introduced a course in MA Art Direction across the two organisations to serve the rapidly expanding world leading film industry centred in the UK. I was proud to have authored and achieve validation for the programme which seeks to augment the training courses already at FDI and to work alongside a team of dedicated creative educators. FDI was set up at Pinewood Film Studios in 2001 by Production Designer Terry Ackland-Snow, following an internationally renowned film career, to offer draughtsmanship courses for the film and television productions.Ideally located at Pinewood Studios, both the Art Direction Course and the Advanced Art Direction Course promise the student a total immersion in the film and television world, and a vitally important first step towards becoming a successful Art Director and Production Designer. Recently collaborating with Creative Media Skills, FDI has run workshops which serve to offer an instructive introduction to Art Direction. Film making being at the forefront in the creative industries, serving to train 'new blood' is incredibly rewarding.
