Lead the Packaging, Processing, Facilities, Sustainability and Long Term Research Efforts at this leader in the Prepared Beans catagory of the food industry. Lead the effort to construct a $16MM new RD&I facility. Co-led development and implementation of new Stage-Gate process. Developed package and process proposal for proposed new plastic bowl Developed plastic microwave cup, paperboard carton and packaging equipment for 8-pack at retail and Club Stores Developed Glass jar package for retail chili Conducted feasibility on 6 alternative retortable packages for baked beans; including Tetra Pak carton; glass jars, plastic bowls, Aluminum cans, metal cans Research Studies: OHMIC Blanching, Antioxidants in Beans, High Pressure Processing, Acidification & Hot Fill of Beans, Bean Yield Improvement, “Shaka” Retort Process, Gentle Motion Retort Process, Biomass to Fuel, Reverse Osmosis for water recovery, Pressure Blanching, Steam Blanching, Laser Sorters.

 Directed major program to develop and qualify 2nd source of supply of composite cans for refrigerated dough. There had been only one supplier for past 40 years. Annual cost savings of $5MM.  Developed and patented two new alternative packages and commercialized a new size multi-component package, all for Refrigerated Fresh dough. Developed an Environmental Packaging Policy for Pillsbury and implemented across all Business Units. Developed two environmental pilot programs for recycling and composting Burger King’s store waste. Managed the relationship with several Strategic Alliances and Joint Developments with major packaging vendors.  Initiated a Strategic Alliance with Michigan Biotechnology Technology Institute to develop and patent a biodegradable coating for Burger King’s paper packages. Reduced frozen pizza packaging costs by $5MM over four years. Developed and introduced first microwave pizza package that crisped the crust utilizing a susceptor. Developed a highly automated packaging system for Toaster Strudel, a frozen pastry product. Developed new microwave popcorn package and reduced costs $3MM. Specified, purchased, and started-up new package testing lab with of state-of-the-art shock and vibration equipment. Identified and commercialized $1MM annually of packaging cost reductions for Burger King. Managed microwave technology development program with Rutgers University; Technology sold for $1MM.

 Implemented $2MM/year of packaging cost reductions on Kool-Aid, Jell-O, Shake N Bake and Stove Top products. Developed a new pouch package that was selected Creative Package of the Year by Food & Drug magazine. Successfully developed and introduced a novel candy (Pop Rocks) in a "first in the industry" pouch package. Developed packaging for a very fragile meat analog product through the utilization of sophisticated shock and vibration package testing equipment. Package was patented. Developed a new injection molded plastic package, from design, through mold building and plant start-up. Developed packaging for a line of poly-bag" and "boil-in-bag" vegetables.
