I’ve been in the GC industry for 44yrs. In the private sector I’ve built convenient stores, restaurants, box stores, shopping malls, tenant improvement, hospitals, assisted living, medical plazas, plasma donation facilities and everything in between, government work for local and federal, worked on Universities, elementary schools, high schools, federal court buildings, Army and Air Force military bases, Air National Guard, and Raytheon for military contracts. Working on Mt. Gramm observatories for the UofA, Stanford University and the Vatican. The projects seem to be endless. In the course of my career I’ve owned my on GC business, came up through the ranks from labor all the way to General Superintendent for a local GC in my home town. I currently work on the owner side and am an owner representative with boots on the ground and oversee the building of our Cleanroom facilities through out the country from the east coast to the west coast. I was born into construction and have lived from my grandfather, my Dad and my Uncles and brothers in construction. Construction is my life and enjoy building things that make a difference. There is no job to big or to small, everyone of the projects I’ve worked I learn more and more. We can never stop learning and with the values my Dad instilled in me growing up I will always do the right thing no matter what it cost me, as this was what he always told us. I have a huge family and it grows bigger every year, I currently have 16 grandchildren and the 17th on the way. I will pass down the values and work ethic my Dad instilled in me to my children, my grandchildren and anyone who is willing to learn. Kindness and compassion is what all people need, even construction workers. So remember everyone can teach you something no matter how old or young.

General SuperintendentBarker Contracting, Inc. May 2020 - May 2021Tucson, Arizona, United StatesI was in charge of all of our traveling division in the field. I worked hand in hand with our director or operations for the traveling division and our local GS in conjunction with each site PM for each project out side of our home location in Tucson, AZ. I over saw all the site superintendents and made sure they had everything they needed to do their jobs to the best of their abilities. Scheduled carpenters as needed for each site, help troubleshooting any issues that may have arisen before, during and after construction to make sure we had a satisfied client and help them with scheduling and any troublesome subcontractors. Worked directly with the owners reps/PMs so we could meet all expectations. -

Principal OwnerVs Concrete Construction Llc May 2009 - Jun 2011Greater Tucson AreaAfter leaving Concord I started VS Concrete Construction. We went in as a family business with my 3 oldest kids, my daughter Sally with her husband Johnny and my son Ray. We had a B1 dual GC license. We mostly functioned as a concrete subcontractor due to the demand from other GC I works for before. We did local government work for ADOT and some local schools, retail, car wash facilities, fast food as well as some minor right of way work in down town Tucson. Our biggest project the new Calvary Chapel Tucson that is today is known as Calvary Tucson. We did this project for Concord General Construction, we did all the concrete work, all the door and hardware installation as well as provide and install all the aluminum windows. I played and owners advocate for Calvary at the time due to my relationship with being a member of the church, this was truly a very delicate position for me but was very rewarding and helped me to further my experience with all aspects of the commercial construction industry. We also install directly for the owners all the sound system equipment and main sanctuary lighting. This venture tools us into a position where we invented a new way to install clusters and linear ways speaker sound system in order to produce a more esthetically pleasing system to hang the speaker from the ceiling. Owning our own business was an essential component in given the knowledge I have today help lead and guide owners and contractors in a direction that is practical and effective for all parties involved. If any of you remember 2010 was a very difficult time for the commercial construction industry in Arizona due to the fall of the housing market and being only a year+- into this we could not survive the down fall we all have to go back to being employed by other businesses. I end up back with Concord for a short time to get me back to being and employee instead of an owner.

Project SuperintendentConcord General Contracting, Inc. May 2008 - Apr 2009Tucson, Arizona, United StatesI did 2 DaVita dialysis clinic for Concord and even though they were a great company to work for I felt like I needed to get my GC license and try this on my own. Concord Ownership played a huge role in helping me get started and will forever be grateful for John Nyman Sr. help and mentorship. I left Concord and got my GC B1 dual contractor license and started my own company. -
Lead Field SupervisorJade Concrete Jun 2006 - May 2008Greater Tucson AreaAfter leaving TL Roof I went to work for a long time friend who owned a concrete subcontracting company. I was responsible for everything outside the doors, the field was my responsibility. I hired all field personal, helped with estimating on a few projects. I managed all the projects by assigning my supervisors for each site along with making sure we had the proper equipment and personnel needed to complete the projects per the GC schedules. I help trouble shoot with the GC and our teams on the ground as well as a few owners and Architects and Engineers as needed. We were a concrete sub and that is what we did Concrete. Worked on federal projects for the city federal court building, Davis Monthan Air Force Base, Fort Huachuca Army base, directly for Local Parks and Recreation ADOT as well as local schools, churches, and the UofA. From retail to restaurants and multi family, county clubs and resorts. We specialized in concrete staining, epoxy and decorative saw-cutting and glass beaded concrete. I worked closely with our owner to make sure we went after the right projects and worked for the right people. Though this was a short span of my career (as a Subcontractor) I did learn a lot and enjoyed the insights from the subcontractors side. -
Project SuperintendentW.E. O'Neil Construction Apr 1986 - Jun 2006Greater Tucson AreaI started working for WE O’Neil when they were know as T. L. Roof and Associates Construction Co. I started with them in a huge hole as they were adding the east wing known as the UofA Cancer Center for the UofA. I started as a laborer and within 4-5yrs was promoted from carpenter to assistant Superintendent to a Project Superintendent. I was a Project Superintendent for them on multiple commercial projects from restaurants, retail, government work for local, federal and Core of Engineers for the US Military, projects for Hughes missile systems, Tucson Air National Guard, along with Davis, Monthan Air Force Base, Fort Huachuca Army base in Sierra Vista, Az., federal court building and Pima County Courthouse, worked on resorts for Westin La Paloma, Hilton El Conquistador and Marriott Westward Look Resort, worked on multiple schools, manufacturing, giants like Caterpillar, Walgreens, and so many more. I have always been asked why I left TL Roof and I took a different direction in life and was looking to get more freedom for my family and went to where at the time I thought would get me more freedom. The construction industry can be very very demanding when you have the experience I had accumulated through my 20+yrs with TL Roof. They were a great company to work for and was never treated with nothing less them respect and admiration. Life has a way of taking us into new adventures.
