Student panellists are an essential part of the institution’s quality processes. I was a member of a panel that ultimately decided whether or not to reapprove undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as part of the Periodic Review, or scrutiniseproposals to deliver new degree programmes. After having undergone training, I was askedto comment on key quality documentation and produce a line of questioning prior to attendance at an event. The event itself involved representing theview of the student in relation to the proposed student experience by asking these questions to theprogramme team, Deans of Schools and Directors, and to engage in discussion with both the panel and team. Skills I gained include effective communication, analytical ability and inter-personal collaboration.
