Under the supervision of Professor Jeffrey Hubbell and PhD student Elyse Watkins, I used phage display to identify high affinity antibody fragments that target surface proteins on erythrocytes in order to induce antigen-specific immunological tolerance.

Provided technical support to staff, teachers, and students at Bret Harte and William Ray Elementary Schools. I managed network and server access for teachers and students from various access points, led the implementation of new hardware and software, and maintained computers by regularly updating software and running performance tests. I also served as a consultant for the administration in regards to acquiring and implementing new technology in the classroom.

Under the supervision of Professor Joel Collier and Dr. Yalini Vigneswaran, I determined the effects of the self-assembling peptide Q11 on macrophage polarization in vitro. Eventually, these results were used to guide in vivo experiments on wound healing. Furthermore, I sought out to understand how physical properties, such as surface charge, modulate macrophage activation so that polarization could be adjusted systematically.Under the supervision of Professor Collier and graduate student Jacqueline Handley, I aided in the development of a self-assembling peptide-based hydrogel for 3D prostate cancer cell culture with tunable mechanical and chemical properties for drug screening assays. I characterized the physical and mechanical properties of these gels using rheology and determined how gel stiffness and protein composition affect cancer cell growth and proliferation. The goal was to better mimic the in vivo tumor microenvironment with a 3D matrix so that prostate cancer cells behave similarly to an in vivo tumor, thus raising the efficacy of the drug being screened.
